Downtown Baltimore (addresses related)

Thought I'd share this great find with everyone. A few weeks back I had sent an email to the Enoch Pratt Free Library, asking if anyone could check the archives for any photos and/or lithographs related to Merrill and his business locations that I had provided.  Well, a librarian took up my request and found the first attached lithograph - 237 and 239 West Baltimore Street- where Merrill had his retail business (239).   She found it in The Visitor's Guide to Baltimore (1878).  For anyone who has any firearms or sporting equipment identified as being sold by Merrill, Thomas & Co. (cased rifles/carbines/revolvers), this photo will hopefully provide some enjoyment.  Now I know where my double barreled shotgun was displayed and sold.

From directories on loc.gov I realized that Armstrong, Cator & Co. took over both addresses with the 1868 directory, and was still there for several years.

I had also found an 1891 lithograph at loc.gov (https://www.loc.gov/resource/g3844b.ct003394r/) of several buildings in the primary business roads/areas.  Good to read the details on the web page.  Last night, I finally opened it up for the first time and darn if I didn't find the same building.  Had to rotate it 180 degrees to read the texts better, but there it was in the first photo below (top right, upside down) and second photo below (bottom left, right side up - much better viewing).

I'll be capturing individual buildings, and where no addresses on the overall lithograph, will work with my connections to flag all those with the right old and new street names and numbers.

I found the match in the downtown lithograph, based on the architecture, but the addresses numbers were off.  What was 237 and 239 West Baltimore Street in 1878 had changed by 1891 to 9 and 11 West Baltimore Street.  My librarian contact provide another awesome referential document/pdf from 1887 showing Baltimore city addresses, old and new after re-districting.  If anyone is interested, email me and I'll send it your way.

Below are all the Merrill home and business addresses I’ve captured to date, including his children and business partners.  Thanks to Francis O’Neill at the Maryland Historical Society for providing some current address translations.  I’d really like to have all his address from the year he married his wife in Baltimore in 1837.
